Happy Mother’s Day to my powerhouse Mamma Dr Val Mashman 🌟 she’s the mamma who used to have me skip school, age 9, to be a craft demonstrator with my aunties at the World Eco Fibre Forum; who took me and my brother out of school to attend a talk by an international orchid expert at the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre; who let me perform at the Sunday night finale of Rainforest World Music Festival and still make it for my morning exams on Monday 😅 This mamma knows the Latin and local names of our plants and birds ; as kids brought us to longhouses to observe old rituals, as she researched pua kumbu weavings, basketry, warfare, pottery. Last year she finished her PhD on the history of Lun Tauh (“our people”). So cool right?? Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and all the work you do 🦋💖
